Dry chemical fire extinguishers are the most common fire extinguishers used in households. They can handle all types of fires – wood or paper, combustible liquids like gasoline or grease, and electrical fires. A dry chemical extinguisher sprays a very fine powder of sodium bicarbonate, potassium bicarbonate or monoammonium phosphate which coat the fuel and help to put out the fire.
